Happy 90th Birthday Rudy! 90th? Wait what?

Rudy and my dad were friends and co-workers as photographers for the Beaver County Times.  When my dad died suddenly in 1962, Rudy stepped in to be there for each and every one of our family.  There are so many good memories but I am particularly fond of the times he patiently drove us around every Christmas eve to look at lights (a tradition I keep with my own children) and the stories that give me a window into “back in the day.” Rudy even took/gave me my wedding photos (except when he walked me down the aisle)!  He inspires me to be a better person.  So this amazing man celebrated his 90th birthday with friends and family this past weekend.  All my life I have been fascinated by his tales of Navy life in WWII, meeting presidents (Truman, JFK, Ford, Carter), woodworking, good fishing spots, and, of course, the photographs, those amazing pictures…  Because I have a dedicated printer for edible ink, I am able to take any computer generated image and transfer it to a cookie.  See what you think of Rudy.  Still a handsome devil, eh?!

Career Day Thank You

Every January, Williamsville East High School has a Career Day.  They bring in business and community members as well as university kids (East alumni) to give the students an idea about different professions and what college life will be like.  I’ve been making a little “thank you” bag for those presenting for the last couple of years.  A little sugar goes a long way.

We are the Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLARENCE SWIM TEAM, STATE WINNERS!  This amazing group of swimmers won all 3 relays at States this weekend- all in either All American or All American Consideration times!  The 200 and 400 free relays times established new STATE records.  Might I remind everyone that means the fastest in ALL of New York state, EVER! Wicked phenomenal!  In individual events, they ruled the pool too.  Lots of best times.  Way to go Dina, Victoria, Sydney, Claire, Rebecca, Maddy, Dorotka, and Allison!
These were the cookies I brought over to the pre-meet pasta party.  I was hoping that the “non-nutrition” would not hurt them.  I guess there was no stopping this group, sugar rush or not.

“Fall” for these Autumn Ideas

Do I love the crisp days of autumn when having the oven on is appreciated?  Yes indeed!  I also love the colors of the fall.  Here is my interpretation of the trees in our yard; New England has nothing on the maples and oaks of Buffalo (pretty both places).  Also have an urn with a stack of pumpkins that defy gravity…hopefully the winds of Sandy too.

I ran the Farmer’s Market at the high school and I needed a way to thank the volunteers.  The ceramic plates I used were from Crate and Barrel (come in a pack of 12) but Wegmans now carries plastic plates of all shapes and sizes so that could be a cheaper option.  The tags were from the Container Store.  …Put a personalized note on the back of the tag for each of my wonderful helpers!
