Cherish You

Mother’s Day 2017 brings attention to that mom who is fine and fancy,  who directed the movie that was your youth, made things feel just right and comfy.  Thanks for schooling us, Mom.  We cherish you.

Artistic Expression

Where does your mind go when it wanders? What do you think of when you take a walk, or are waiting for sleep, or are in the shower? I have a certain, um, inclination to think about cookie concepts.  I have often wondered if cookies are into me as much as I am into them.

This set started with someone saying a famous artist’s name just a little wrong.  My mind took it to “Vincent Van Goat” and the cookie set took on a life of it’s own.

Hands Down

So many interested stories to cookie.fy.  There were on a field trip to VA, far away from CO, when it happened.  Let’s just say it involved a nail, her daughter’s pointer and middle fingers, and the emergency room.  At least she is a lefty and the injuries were on the right hand… These cookies were a thank you to the administrator who took wonderful care of her, while keeping the parents appraised of the situation.  The daughter and caretaker missed the tour of Mt Vernon- thus the inclusion of President Washington.

Canteloupe? Um. They did!

They quietly became Mr. and Mrs. and held a small reception of immediate family and closest friends afterward.  Since her business is running a gym, their cookies had a few “gym dandy” word puns… Who could resist “Oh My Quad, they’re Married” or “And they Lifted happily ever after”????

Hoppy Easter 2017

A little late to the (cake) plate on this post but just love the umbrella cutter (still crushing on all things Killer Zebras).  I tweaked the original design to incorporate Easter bunnies.  If you haven’t noticed, I am in a geometric phase; bring on the structured rabbits. Hope you enjoy!

St Patrick’s Day 2017

Does life ever get the best of you and you get from point A to point B just in time? That was my March and most of April.  Busy is not bad, just lamenting that there are only 24 hours in the day (or that I could be a bit more efficient?).  Back to prioritizing blog posts…

The cookie platter from St Patrick’s Day showcased some delightful stencils from the ever amazing Killer Zebras.

a Fine.Apple

If you were a fruit, you’d be a fine-apple, a shine-apple, a no whine-apple with whom I’d like to dine-apple.

For a pink and gold and mint colored party.

pineapple.jpg

Huh.  Apparently I don’t have a pineapple cutter (how did that happen?) so I “frankensteined” two cookie cutters to make these pineapples…

Great Gatsby

These Gatsby wedding favors were a cinch to create, thanks to fabulous stencils from Melanie at  Killer Zebras! Black and gold were the colors of the day. Gatby 2.jpg

Rokem gold mixed with water was painted at a diagonal directly on to the cookie.  Then the white and black royal icings were piped on and left to dry.

I covered the white icing with a Stenci-Blocker from Stencibelle and airbrushed Amerimist Gold sheen using a KZ stencil.

Bear in Mind

Theodore R M was born on February the 11th! Happy, healthy babies are a great reason to celebrate! These cookies are for a bit belated baby shower celebrating Teddy (that’s what they are going to call him!). Naturally, a teddy bear theme was perfect for the occasion.

The teddy bears (panda bear cutter from Bobbi’s Cookie Cutters) started with a base coat of brown. Using Lila Loa‘s book for guidance, I mixed chocolate brown with purple to achieve the desired color.  Once that was dry, I dabbed on some spots of same color icing and stippled with a stiff brush to achieve the “teddy bear texture.”

I let that dry for 1 hour and added the arms, nose and feet. After drying overnight, I stippled the arms and added hands.

Simple eye and nose details were added last, along with the rosy cheeks. The flower was made using  wafer paper and a Martha Stewart (I think) Recollections punch (from Michaels).  I painted them silver with a blue center (to match other cookie highlights ).  Flowers were incorporated to match the invitation.

The stencil airbrushed on the 2 other cookies can be found at Killer Zebras.
