The video game Banjo.Kazooie was originally released in 1998 for Nintendo 64 and then rereleased in 2008 for Xbox 360. I am told that it is a classic… and worthy of being ‘cookie.fied’ for a “boys” night marathon play fest. So that is just what was done.
Man’s best friend is also a young girl’s best buddy. Here’s how the story unfolds. A young lady struggled with her autism, finding it increasing more difficult to go outside and even interact people within her own home, other than closest family members. Then the family found the Susquehanna Service Dogs and Yahtzee. After much schooling together, the pair graduated; Yahtzee was headed to his new home. It has made all the difference in the world. Now when people come up to pet Yahtzee and the attention is focused on him. This allows lady H to not be the center of attention and have dog-gone good conversation starters. Friends were so proud of their success and happiness that they wanted to celebrate with a cookie platter (Yahtzee got appropriate dog treats…).
Yahtzee is a beautiful and loving black lab. A perfect pairing!
The country club/golf fund raiser theme was “diamond in the rough.” The client’s only instructions were ‘we want a diamond…’ I asked ‘diamond?’ …not “rough” like a fairway rough or a diamond sitting in a fairway rough? ‘Nope, a diamond. And put it in a bag with a ribbon…100 bags.’ Okay. What could I do with quick efficiency and (because I am who I am) in a design that I had not seen before? Here are the resulting cookies:

I started with a simple superman “s” shaped cookie cutter and flooded them with white royal icing. That dried overnight before I added the blue.ish accents (which only had to dry a short time…like an hour or so) before I free-hand/penned in the diamond outline. I used an Americolor black pen. Here’s a quick pic of the general steps I took to get it done.

The request was for a tray of engagement rings to sweeten up a bridal shower. And I did make rings, putting my little twist of a heart shaped cutout in the middle. But , as always, I couldn’t leave well enough alone. I wanted to include just a few designs to personalize the platter. I had seen some beautiful wedding photos where the couple had their hands in the shape of a heart so…. this is my cookie take on that theme.

New York public high schools have their graduation ceremonies the last week of June. They may be later than the rest of the country but they party the whole summer long. Just wanted to give a taste for what fun you can have with custom cookies and “2014” graduates!
Had a screen shot of Helen on stage in the midst of Chinese dancing. She’s so graceful and gorgeous that I wanted to make sure she got her own special cookie!

This party had two platters: one with a look at the past/a nod to the future and the other with all of the graduate’s sports interests. The shot of him playing lacrosse was taken from a photo his mom sent me.

It’s piano recital season again. I’d like to say that I play the piano but I don’t think I can stretch the truth that far. We do, however, have a piano in the house and I am a fan of graphic black and white. I look at sheet music as a visual dance, with patterns and chaos and calm.
The treble and bass clefs were done free hand in royal icing. The music measure was drawn with an edible ink marker, free hand as well. I started by drawing the top line followed by each lower line. Then I added the vertical ends to the measure, the treble clef, notes and squiggles. The inspiration came from a stamp I saw somewhere along the way. To make the piano keys, I penned in an outside box and eyeballed 6 equal lines within that box. Royal icing was used to outline the outside box and add the black keys.
Well, sort of. Cake is awesome but I am much better at baking cookies. So when a friend’s kiddo wanted to take treats in to school for her 10th birthday, the phrase ‘let them have cake and eat it too’ came to mind. Hopefully no (french) revolution will follow…
I made this for my husband for Father’s Day (because he is the bomb.diggity father/husband/man) but it could be sent to so many people for so many reasons!
My hubby rock and rolled it back in the day. He is still going strong and is so much a great papa. But I couldn’t help but poke a little fun about the changes over the years (um, look at me calling the kettle black…). The concept all started mulling around in the back of my head in December of 2013 when I saw John Atkinson’s cartoon about ZZ.z top. Please, please, please go to his blog site, Wrong Hands! His sense of humor is downright brilliant and his cartoons oh so clever! You will be chortling all day! Thank you John for allowing me to “cookiefy” your original design and art work!
