Move over, York. These peppermint Patties are made with chocolate shortbread (thank you for sharing the recipe Lila Loa) and standard buttercream icing flavored with peppermint extract. Crushed a couple of peppermint candies to decorate the borders and voila. Very Minteresting!

The periodic table has enjoyed a rejuvenated coolness ever since Breaking Bad. Personally, I always thought there were loads of interesting stories associated with the elements (ie: Copper and clean air/water systems and the 1976 outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease OR Iodine and Mahatma Gandhi and the British salt tax. Apparently the British have an inspirational way with taxes and revolutions.). So I’m “breaking” out the elements again- this time to celebrate that jolly, old elf. How does he know if we’ve been bad or good? NSA?
Can I leave well enough alone? Good question to which I obviously do not have a good answer. Hhmmm.
My Mom would be happy- cookies made using her vintage cutters from the 1950’s. I grew up with these shapes, this type of glaze, accompanied with jimmies and colored sugars. It’s like going home.
Then there is the reason for the season. Some straw in the manager and a very bright star.

Sugar is in season (isn’t it always?). I used the edible confetti from Ink4Cakes (http://www.ink4cakes.com/Confetti-Colored-Edible-Papers_c_57.html) to make the straw, hay, and corn silks. Love the texture it gives!
This is an organization whose cause I can “wrap my hands around”; my small contribution was cookies for their latest fundraiser. First Book gets new books to children in need. The local Buffalo advisory board has worked with school districts and partnered with businesses and community programs to do just that. It earned a 4 star rating (highest possible) from Charity Navigator- rating of non-profits on strength of their finances, control of administrative and fundraising expenses, and transparency of their operations.
