Better put a RING on it!

The request was for a tray of engagement rings to sweeten up a bridal shower.  And I did make rings, putting my little twist of a heart shaped cutout in the middle.  But , as always, I couldn’t leave well enough alone.  I wanted to include just a few designs to personalize the platter. I had seen some beautiful wedding photos where the couple had their hands in the shape of a heart so…. this is my cookie take on that theme.

This is the platter before it got wrapped up for delivery.  Late night photo so not the same quality of light.  Got to make a photo booth one day…

2014 Graduation ideas

New York public high schools have their graduation ceremonies the last week of June.  They may be later than the rest of the country but they party the whole summer long.   Just wanted to give a taste for what fun you can have with custom cookies and “2014” graduates!

Had a screen shot of Helen on stage in the midst of Chinese dancing.  She’s so graceful and gorgeous that I wanted to make sure she got her own special cookie!

This party had two platters: one with a look at the past/a nod to the future and the other with all of the graduate’s sports interests.  The shot of him playing lacrosse was taken from a photo his mom sent me.

It’s piano recital season again.  I’d like to say that I play the piano but I don’t think I can stretch the truth that far.  We do, however, have a piano in the house and I am a fan of graphic black and white.  I look at sheet music as a visual dance, with patterns and chaos and calm.

The treble and bass clefs were done free hand in royal icing.  The music measure was drawn with an edible ink marker, free hand as well.  I started by drawing the top line followed by each lower line.  Then I added the vertical ends to the measure, the treble clef, notes and squiggles.  The inspiration came from a stamp I saw somewhere along the way.  To make the piano keys, I penned in an outside box and eyeballed 6 equal lines within that box.  Royal icing was used to outline the outside box and add the black keys.

Let Them Eat Cake!

Well, sort of.  Cake is awesome but I am much better at baking cookies.  So when a friend’s kiddo wanted to take treats in to school for her 10th birthday, the phrase ‘let them have cake and eat it too’ came to mind. Hopefully no (french) revolution will follow…

Sweet Sixteen

Time becomes supersonic in speed and, sometimes, how you know is when kids you know hit milemarker birthdays.  How could it be that Katherine is sixteen? There goes another “little one” off to the DMV…  Here was my way of helping her sixteenth birthday be (literally) SWEET!

Father’s Day 2014

My hubby rock and rolled it back in the day.  He is still going strong and is so much a great papa.  But I couldn’t help but poke a little fun about the changes over the years (um, look at me calling the kettle black…). The concept all started mulling around in the back of my head in December of 2013 when I saw John Atkinson’s cartoon about ZZ.z top. Please, please, please go to his blog site, Wrong Hands!  His sense of humor is downright brilliant and his cartoons oh so clever!  You will be chortling all day!  Thank you John for allowing me to “cookiefy” your original design and art work!

And happy father’s/dad’s/papa’s day all you handsome ROCKers out there! Rock and Roll forever!

Engagement Party Platter

The mom of the bride.to.be had seen a couple of designs on line that she wanted to mimic so we met to cruise the world.wide.web of cookies.  In the end, she choose 3 shapes and ideas: a save.the.date square, a silhouette to match the invitation, and a double heart with the couples initials and a mini-engagement ring.  It is all about making the customer happy!  The bride.to.be was completely surprised (cried when she saw everyone) and the mom was kind enough to follow up with lovely comments like “big hit” and “very, very tasty as you said they would be.”

On a side note, I was satisfied with how the silhouette and the save.the.date cookies turned out but not thrilled by the double heart.  Woof. Learning is constant and style is (hopefully) ever improving.  It is a tough lesson for me that the road to the consistently fabulous cookie is long.  A worthy goal to be worked toward, for sure…

Auto.matic Love

It’s always about the story… Long ago, the parents vacationed in Italy and got to tour the Ferrari auto factory.  As they heard the whole story, they fell in love with the name Enzo.  Two lovely little girls later, along comes their beloved Enzo… aaaand the car and driver themed baby cookie set. I hope Enzo Ferrari would be proud.

Just what the Doctor Ordered

I always ask for the story behind the request for cookies.  In this case, there was a surprise health incident and a friend wanted to send some cookies to speed along the healing process.
