I have such interesting clients with the best events or occasions to celebrate! Usually they tell me their story, that seed germinates in my brain, and, shortly thereafter, the cookie designs pop out in sugar form. But, every once and a while, a client tells me their story and …. nothing. Nada. A big fat zero. This was that customer. Seriously, the nicest people EVER to work with and my creativity for a fun design was a slow grind to nowhere. Ugh. The occasion was celebrating a milestone with their loyal customers. The product: commercial HVAC. I wanted to please the engineers (as a kindred soul) so I offered up some samples. The three finalists chosen were:

But just to show you how designs evolve, here were the samples I gave them (the theme for the night was “we couldn’t have done it without you”):

I fight myself constantly about designs in another way. I seem to be able to create only complex (aka time consuming) cookies. Some day I will make cute but relatively simple-to-execute designs. Today is not that day.

I stink at circles…. sigh.

It takes a special family to host a student on internship for the whole summer; this is the thank you that went to that family. Can you guess where she interned/where they lived? Yep, you got it. Los Alamos, home to the famous Laboratory (ahem, nerd internship perfection) and birthplace of the first atomic bomb. This set was my homage to that notable (??? notorious) distinction.

Background stencils from the lovely Melanie at Killer Zebras. Silver Sheen airbrush color from Americolor Corp. Silver disco dust on “thank you” from Sunflower Sugar Art.

Had a request to make a set dedicated to Denver and Colorado (tourism celebration)! Couldn’t be happier to create a set about one of the most fabulous places on the planet! 5280 is high and mighty (feet high, you guys, feet ….) !

Father’s day 2017 is going tech. Old school tech, but heck.

The Denver Children’s Museum recently had their fundraiser gala and Jaala (Jaala’s Party Pantry) pulled together quite the event based on the book Wind in the Willows !! She thought the main characters come to life on a cookie would add a sweet touch. I tried to keep the personalities of each character in mind when designing the cookie.
The bold and fabulous Mr Toad:

These cookies took some time (understatement of the year) but when you have a design in mind and they are going to a great cause… Some day I will make myself do simple designs. But not today. To give you an feel for how a cookie comes to be, here are the steps for the rat (after baking, base flooding, and air brushing the cookies) ….

The Marvelous Mole:

Last but not least, the Badger:

Caroline and Donnell had a fairy tale romance so their wedding favors had to step it up to shine like this beautiful couple!! Caroline chose two different designs; both had parchment colored background and a white floral to mimic their invitations. She couldn’t decide between “Mr & Mrs” or “hello LOVE” so why not have both!
Mr & Mrs:

Hello Love (based on stencil by Killer Zebras!):

Some people who are near and dear to me are/were teachers so I have a special place in my heart of those who guide us toward critical thinking. My 2017 gift box for the classroom teacher is right/write track.

And it all adds up for cookies that are calculated to make the math teacher smile….

Mother’s Day 2017 brings attention to that mom who is fine and fancy, who directed the movie that was your youth, made things feel just right and comfy. Thanks for schooling us, Mom. We cherish you.

Spent the afternoon with the Colorado logo. Pac Man’s cousin. Eating up our plentiful sunshine!
