Glad Grad

We have been renovating a 30 year old house since we moved to New Hampshire this past spring.  Many people will warn you about the costs and the timeline of renovations.  “Many people” were correct, correct, and, oh yeah, CORRECT! But, at last, catching up on the cookie sets never posted….

I created this set last spring for one GLAD GRADuate. Thank you Lawdy that that part of schooling was done (although she is now working on her Masters…). Impressive.gladgrad3.jpg

Geek is the new Chic

I am so happy for Katherine- that she is graduating from high school and heading to Pitt to study neuroscience.  But, dang, she is the youngest of the swim kids with whom our children hung out! All this growing up is happening!  An era of chlorine is over (I mean, even Michael Phelps is retired now). Yikes!

In any case, it was one last graduation set to make.  I made two platters: one focused on the nerdy inclinations and the other on her future university, Pitt.

For the Geek inside us all (okay, maybe not ALL of us), I focused on some biological responses.  #nerdsrule #chemistryiseverywhere  Those stamped clever/nerdy sayings came from pencils I bought from Newton and the Apple.

But my favorite was the Myelin sheath dress.  (I try to come up with my own clever creations whenever possible.  I think this is another Mama Mayer original.)

Lastly, here are a couple of close ups for the Pitt cookies. I have a thing for puffy cookies….

Aquaholic

V is for Victory but also for Victoria.  She is heading to the University of Buffalo where she will swim for their D1 team.  Victoria is super sweet, honest and hardworking but also has a playful, whimsical side.  So I thought a few happy splashes (thank you Jill from Funky Cookie Studio) and a saying from her favorite Disney movie would give the set a lighthearted feel.

DSC_0007…Working on some different techniques; my attempt at pointillism (divisionism/neo.impressionism) was NOT spot on but, hey, you have to start somewhere.

Lots of layers until the final platter was complete!

On the Side of Angels

Although the formal name of this graduate is Angelica, her parents’ pet name for her is Angel.  They wanted that to be somehow incorporated into one of the cookie platters.  Oh, and there was a red dye food allergy in the immediate family so, even though that is one her school, minimize the red. Ask and ye shall receive.

Angelica will be going into a science field at university so I thought the ‘graduated’ cylinder could come out and play.  Once a nerd, forever a nerd.  A nerd with a pun addiction.

Instrumental.

This graduate is heading to the prestigious Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University.  The instruments near and dear to her heart are the oboe and the english horn.  Pinterest and IG have so many cool photos where only part of the subject is showing , with that section displaying incredible detail.  So I ‘cookied’ her instruments of choice in a similar fashion.

Side by side comparison. The cookies were first base coated in royal icing (RI).  The instruments were then drawn in with a black edible ink pen and filled in with a small paint brush (and gel mixed with clear extract).  A final surround of black RI finished the cookies up!
