American Girl Inspired

This was the first time I had an American Girl birthday theme.  Lea Clark, the 2016 girl of the year, adventures in Brazil, taking photos of the wildlife and roaming the beaches.  I used patterns similar to her 2 main dresses to celebrate the birthday girl’s 8 years.  Sea turtles were requested but I wanted to throw a colorful parrot and toucan as well.  The butterfly is designed after her hair clip…

The camera is a stamp from Michael’s, colored with watered down edible gel. Finished it with my signature (typewriter) stamped letters.

oh snap

Magical Birthday

Harry Potter still has the power to create magical birthdays.  And so I hoped it was with this request.  I borrowed a little wisdom from Luna to showcase in this set.

Alaska

She wanted birthday cookies that were centered around the things he likes.  They have great taste (…as do these cookies).  I must admit that I rarely make the same cookies again and find customer’s diverse requests so interesting.  The hand knucks are new to me; learn something every day.  So happy to make Alaska cookies; we had the most fabulous time taking our kids to Denali NP and beyond a few summers ago.  Stunning.  Jaw-dropping gorgeous.  All that in more, Alaska!

LEGENDARY Birthday

Don’t we all hope for a birthday celebration that has a place in the history books? (um. I guess I’m not an introvert…)  Well clear off the tabletops and hop on up for this legendary celebration set.  I was inspired by a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; they are running an exhibit on Mythical creatures.  Wicked cool and culturally enriching.  And germinated the seeds of an “epic” birthday set….

So Cheesy

A dear friend works as a “cheese guru” for Wegmans (utterly fantastic grocery store, for those who do not live in the northeast).  As she was approaching a milestone birthday, I wanted to send her something to lighten the mood.  You know, to encourage her to BRIE all that she could BRIE.  Go a little CRACKERS on her big day….

Party Animal

I have a confession. Our eldest turned 25 this week.  Holy time passage!  Look away for a moment and our babies are adults!  Tori has found that lovely balance between working hard and keeping things playful and in perspective.  But, um, the girl does know how to rock a celebration.  With that in mind, I give you her ‘party animal’ birthday set. Hope all your birthday wishes come true, Tori!

Very Oh-MINION-ated

A million more minions. OK.  Not a million.  But many.  Party apparel and blue-green dresses were requested for this young lady’s birthday party.  Packaged as favors (see previous Minion posts for bag and tag look), these girls held their thanks close to their hearts.

Harry Potter

Every once and a while, cookies turn out EXACTLY like I imagined.  That is the case for the cookies in this first picture.  I wanted just the right amount of detail and aging to go along with the magic, mystery, and mischief that is Harry Potter.

A little bit of Ivory Americolor, my trusty Rainbow Dust edible ink black pen, a couple of good artist brushes and I was off to the races (or Quidditch?).  Loved that I could find the recipe for Polyjuice potion!  Is there nothing not to be found with a good Google inquiry?

The birthday girl’s only request for her Harry Potter themed party was to include all the house and Hogwarts crests.  Oh and a snitch or Deathly Hallow sign too.

Walking Dead

I had never seen the show when I got this birthday party platter order.  Several episodes and some research later, I did my best not to be too gore.and.gross without losing the excitement and anticipation of the apocalyptic zombie world (really unbelievable makeup artists and effects).

So my favorite crazy thing on the shows I watched (amongst a LOT of crazy things) was that the mother never knew where her kid was with zombie death lying around every corner.  This resulted in my ‘missing poster’ child friendly milk carton.  For personalization, I added the birthday boy’s name and his birth date in the UPC symbol.  It’s all about the details, baby.

Some clever person thought of this wordplay on the Subway motto.  Not me though I wish it was.  Perfect in any case.

Michonne was Sean’s favorite character so I had to paint her in warrior stance.  This and the barbed wire are examples of ‘watercolor and ink’- my favorite medium only using thinned down food gel and edible ink pens!

Just remember…DON’T GIT BIT!
