Polar Opposites Attract

This gingerbread ornament was my contribution to a project organized and installed by LoveBugCookies (per the annual holiday gingerbread cookie collaboration started years ago by TheCookieArchitect). A ‘tree’ filled gingerbread ornaments from around the US/world was placed at the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness in DC.  In keeping with my style, I created to a punny ornament that hopefully made our veterans pause for a moment and then smile.  Thank you Beth. Thank you Rebecca.  Thank you very much, veterans and military personnel.

Happy Thanksgiving 2015

Hope you ride the gravy train over the turkey terrain to Mount Mashed Potato. May your pies pile up to the skies.

Grateful for my family, friends, and followers… oh and grateful there’s no rationing of sugar and flour.  (Cookie cutter Bed moulding from Truly Mad Plastics , gold background stencil Killer Zebras, ‘give thanks and sweet as pie stencil from The Cookie Box).

My best to you all!DSC_0026

FOWL Play

My sister has been hosting Thanksgiving for untold number of years and it it is my God given duty to bring cookies for the dessert table.  Usually, that table is quite full so this year I made turkeys just for the kids (by that I mean mentally a kid so it qualifies a few more folks than you would think). These cookies combined The Cookie Architect designed wave cutter with a small candy corn cutter (both found at the wonderful Truly Mad Plastics web site.) The colors utilized were Americolor egg yellow, orange, chocolate, and sky blue (each icing batch had a drop of egg yellow gel to balance all of the hues).

Oh yeah.  And one of the turkeys is not like the others.  Getting my Sesame Street on.

Alaska

She wanted birthday cookies that were centered around the things he likes.  They have great taste (…as do these cookies).  I must admit that I rarely make the same cookies again and find customer’s diverse requests so interesting.  The hand knucks are new to me; learn something every day.  So happy to make Alaska cookies; we had the most fabulous time taking our kids to Denali NP and beyond a few summers ago.  Stunning.  Jaw-dropping gorgeous.  All that in more, Alaska!

LEGENDARY Birthday

Don’t we all hope for a birthday celebration that has a place in the history books? (um. I guess I’m not an introvert…)  Well clear off the tabletops and hop on up for this legendary celebration set.  I was inspired by a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; they are running an exhibit on Mythical creatures.  Wicked cool and culturally enriching.  And germinated the seeds of an “epic” birthday set….

Jellyvision

Our youngest interned at Jellyvision this summer and had a stinkin’ blast! Learned a ton and so, so enjoyed the folks there.  I think I want to work there when I grow up.  Jellyvision has these adorable characters, blobbies, they use as part of their communication tools.  Yeah, I didn’t know what a blobby was either but, one look,  and I knew they were meant to grace the cover of a cookie.  Here’s part of the last.week.sweet.treats she took in…

Why Don’t You Come Up and SASHIMI sometime?

#truth  My never ending love of puns extends to every food experience.  Just one trip to my favorite sushi restaurant and these little jokesters started hanging around IG (yep, you can find me at MamaMayerBakery on Instagram).  Oh, and it’s been a summer of humorous inspiration.  Just you wait.

Back to School

Sugaring up those kids before we put them on that bus…Um, apologies to all teachers (except the art teachers- maybe the decorated cookies will inspire someone?).

I wanted to work the shading on the pencils and crayons so I could take a simple design and turn it up a notch.  For the pencil, I watered down the same gel color as the base royal icing and followed the mid point of the cookie, painting after the base had dried-  Americolor deep pink, Rainbow Dust ProGel grey, Americolor egg yellow and ivory. Finished off the cookie with the food safe pen detail and the black RI outline.
