I have been making place cards for a friend’s Christmas Eve dinner for many years. Santa’s helpers were happy to help, taking a break after working so hard all year long. Hope your holiday meal is a very merry one.

Ornament cookies for our open house.

Oh the wonder of words and idioms. My fascination with the blend of visual and verbal art continues. Can you hear the sleigh bells ring, as you listen? Cookies hand painted and trimmed with Rainbow Dust edible ink pens. Background mat from InkandElmBackrops.

My sister has been hosting Thanksgiving for untold number of years and it it is my God given duty to bring cookies for the dessert table. Usually, that table is quite full so this year I made turkeys just for the kids (by that I mean mentally a kid so it qualifies a few more folks than you would think). These cookies combined The Cookie Architect designed wave cutter with a small candy corn cutter (both found at the wonderful Truly Mad Plastics web site.) The colors utilized were Americolor egg yellow, orange, chocolate, and sky blue (each icing batch had a drop of egg yellow gel to balance all of the hues).
Oh yeah. And one of the turkeys is not like the others. Getting my Sesame Street on.

Hope this day is all that you would hope it to be- whether you are in it for love, hate, or simply the massive quantities of candy. Sorry for the late posting. I realize that it is almost
ValenTIME… This is FOURm me TWO you.
Our daughters are amazing young ladies; they are the BALM diggity! Here’s how I let them know.
Okay, I am not KITTEN around anymore. These were for my cat loving friend. My take on the retro ‘smitten kitten.’
I belong to a couple of fitness clubs, as I have exercise ADD and adore this instructor over here and that type of class over there… Over the holidays I bring in cookies, including a a bakers box of cookies to one large group. The incredible fitness instructor for this group, April, motivates you to work hard while finding balance and humor in the daily grind; thus, she has a HUGE following. These exercisers, however, may or may not eat cookies on a regular basis. So I like to bring in a lot of cookies that are only a bite or two each. I kinda missed getting it done before Christmas this year so I went for a New Year theme.
Do you make a resolution for the start of a new year? If so, do you quantify it (try 3 vegetables you never had before), make them broad and fuzzy (be more patient), or keep it short and sweet (dance in a puddle)? No matter; I just hope you find something in 2015 that puts the fire in your belly to make something positive happen.
I wanted to design some simple but sweet cookies this year involving Santa. Something geometric but not complicated. Here is that design!
These are the steps involved in creating them. Sorry about the poor quality of the first photos. One day I will make myself a photo booth…
I first made the “oval face” using a bit of ivory food coloring. That dried for 4 hours before I added his red hat.
While the red hat was still wet, I sprinkled on coarse, clear sugar crystals.
Then I worked on his beard. A quick coat of RI white with little round white non-pariels and voila!
I let this all set overnight (isn’t necessary if you are careful) and got to work on his face. A Q-Tip to add his blush and two simple wide eyes with black royal icing, Santa was complete.
The finished product! Ho.ho.hope you like!
My favorite holiday. Family, friends, food, and a long couch on which to take a nap. Oh, um, and a little odd sense of humor 😉
Trekkie turkey. Live long and prosper?
T.Hanks.giving thanks. (so sorry Tom Hanks. your acting and name are perfect.)
Decree of thanks to all who follow this blog. Especially thankful for our 2 daughters (without whom I wouldn’t be creating cookies or have learned how to blog.)
Lastly, I’d like to serve up some gratitude:
